چکیده
We study the eeect of position and momentumprojectionsin the numericalintegrationof constrained Hamiltonian systems. We show theoretically and numerically that momentum projections are better and more eecient. They lead to smaller error growth rates and aaect the energy error much less, as they deene a canonical transformation. As a concrete example, the planar pendulum is treated. Let the Hamiltonian H(q; p) (with @ 2 H @p@p nonsingular) be deened in a 2N-dimensional phase space and impose K (irreducible) position constraints (q) = 0. The arising dynamics are usually described by the following diierential algebraic equation

Stable Underlying Equations for Constrained Hamil- tonian Systems
Constrained Hamiltonian systems represent a special class of differential algebraic equations appearing in many mechanical problems. We survey some possibilities for exploiting their rich geometric structures in the numerical integration of the systems. Our main theme is the construction of underlying equations for which the constraint manifold possesses good stability properties. As an applica...
متن کاملGeneralized Serret-Andoyer Transformation and Applications for the Controlled Rigid Body
The Serret-Andoyer transformation is a classical method for reducing the free rigid body dynamics, expressed in Eulerian coordinates, to a 2-dimensional Hamiltonian flow. First, we show that this transformation is the computation, in 3-1-3 Eulerian coordinates, of the symplectic (Marsden-Weinstein) reduction associated with the lifted left-action of SO(3) on T ∗SO(3)—a generalization and extens...
متن کاملRandom Hamiltonian Models and Quantum Prediction Algorithms
This paper describes an algorithm for selecting a consistent set within the consistent histories approach to quantum mechanics and investigates its properties. The algorithm select from among the consistent sets formed by projections defined by the Schmidt decomposition by making projections at the earliest possible time. The algorithm unconditionally predicts the possible events in closed quan...
متن کاملDetecting Halo Streams with GAIA
We investigate what the proposed ESA astrometric satellite GAIA will reveal by observing the halo of the Milky Way. Specifically, we look for halo streams which are the signatures left by the merging/accretion events experienced by a typical galaxy like the Milky Way. We run numerical simulations of the disruption of satellite galaxies in a Galactic potential to generate artificial GAIA halo ca...
متن کاملSolutions of a Dirac hydrogenlike meson and scalar confinement in low orbital angular momentum states
Wavefunctions of a heavy-light quark (Q, q̄) system described by a covariant Dirac hamiltonian are analyzed. By assuming that the confinement potential is a Lorentz scalar (S), the slope of the IsgurWise function is calculated at zero recoil point. The result obtained is ξ(1) = −0.93 ± 0.05. This means that the solutions are perfectly consistent. If relativistic corrections in the light quark wa...
